Improving Healthcare
Senator Alonzo Washington is committed to addressing the healthcare challenges facing Prince George’s County. Despite minor improvements, too many families continue to leave the county for healthcare services, even for routine or critical needs. Reports show the county is short over 100 physicians and lacks more than 200 hospital beds, leading to long emergency room wait times and delayed care.
Maternal health outcomes for Black women in the county remain alarmingly poor, forcing many families to seek care and deliver their babies outside of Prince George’s County. As a father and husband, Senator Washington understands the urgency of these issues and is determined to bring change.
He will continue to work tirelessly to: • Expand healthcare workforce initiatives to recruit and retain physicians, nurses, and specialists. • Increase hospital capacity, ensuring the county has enough beds to meet the growing needs of its residents. • Improve maternal health outcomes by addressing disparities in care and access for women of color. • Expand access to mental health services and behavioral health programs, especially for students and families. • Hold the state accountable for its historical lack of investment in healthcare for Prince George’s County, demanding equity in funding and resources.
