Senator Alonzo T. Washington is a result-oriented advocate for education and student success, driven by his own experience as a first-generation college graduate. Throughout his career, he has worked to expand access to higher education by supporting programs and policies that reduce financial barriers for students, including his advocacy for the Promise Scholarship in 2018 that awarded over 3,000 students scholarships to attend community college and continue their academic journey.

Senator Washington has consistently invested in the future of Maryland’s students by supporting and contributing to scholarship and educational support programs, helping to direct more than one million dollars toward scholarships and resources for students.

Senator Alonzo T. Washington Scholarship Details:

Eligibility: 

The applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a District 22 resident

  • Applicants must be current undergraduate or graduate students or students entering an accredited college or university in Fall 2026.

Application Process:

  • Applicants must submit an unofficial academic transcript.

  • Have one letter of recommendation (PDF file) attached directly to the application.  Recommenders must be a supervisor, faculty member/professor, mentor, organizational leader, etc. and cannot be a student.

  • Your application is incomplete if any of the aforementioned items are missing or if your letter of recommendation has not been received. Incomplete applications will not be processed or evaluated.
